Fall In Light: Mastering Watercolor, Gouache, Pastel - STARTS SEPTEMBER 15

$465.00

Beginner – Intermediate:

Celebrate the beauty of the season in this inspiring 8 week drawing and painting course designed for both beginners and continuing students. Through watercolor, gouache, pastel, graphite, and charcoal, we will explore the rich colors, dramatic light, and quiet atmosphere of autumn while building strong technical skills and developing a more personal artistic voice.

Throughout the series, students will strengthen their understanding of observation, composition, value, color, and mark-making while working from life. Projects will include seasonal still lifes, expressive figure drawing from a live model, interiors, landscapes, and autumn-inspired studies that capture the changing light and atmosphere of the season. We will explore both carefully rendered technical paintings and more expressive, mood-driven works, learning when precision serves a painting and when intuition and gesture bring it to life.

Technical concepts will include:

One- and two-point perspective

Drawing as the foundation of painting

Color mixing and color temperature

Light, shadow, and value

Composition and spatial design

Gesture, form, and expressive mark-making

Each class includes demonstrations, individualized instruction, and discussions of art history. We will draw inspiration from masters such as Claude Monet, Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, Edgar Degas, Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro, Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, Joaquín Sorolla, and Paul Cézanne, while also exploring the work of influential contemporary painters including David Hockney, Wolf Kahn, Lois Dodd, Gerhard Richter and more. Together, we will study how artists use light, color, composition, and observation to create compelling and memorable paintings.

This class offers a welcoming and supportive environment where technical skill, creative exploration, and artistic confidence grow together.

Tuesday mornings 10am - 12pm (Students are welcome to come early to start and stay through 12:30 to finish work)

Dates: Sept. 15th, 22nd, 29th, October 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, Nov. 10th
